Work At Home ? Where Do I Begin?

We can probably agree on one thing. You don’t like your job and you want to see if you can start a career working from home. You probably don’t know a lot about how to start a new career working at home. All you know is that you want the time freedom and income potential that you’ve heard, and dreamt, about. A work at home lifestyle is very different. It requires strong will and motivation to be successful. But for those who can achieve their goal of producing a significant income from home, the rewards are beyond anything you could have imagined.

Work at Home means a lot of different things to different people. For some people it includes telecommuting which is not really what most people have in mind. If you are telecommuting, you have a boss and set hours and limitation on your income just like always. You are really just saving yourself some driving time. To really work at home means you are a self-employed independent contractor. It means you have started a home based business and you work for yourself. You answer to yourself and nobody else. You decide what type of business you want to run, how to market it and how much to pay yourself. If you have the right education and skills, you can start a business doing accounting or programming or some other service based business.

There are two main issues with this. The first is that you have to have the skills and expertise in that area in order to start that type of business. The second is that service businesses are not very scalable and you want to be able to make some serious money, not just scrape by with what amounts to a really risky job situation. A true work at home career means you have established yourself in network marketing or affiliate sales or lead generation and brokering or some other business that is easy to establish, easily scalable and generates comfortable margins. To me working at home really means “work at home for a while and then watch your business pay you to relax for the rest of your life”.

If you’ve starting searching online for “work at home” or “home based business” you have already encountered a giant collection of good, bad and ugly. There are many legitimate opportunities. There is plenty of fraud and countless scams. There are a lot of people who have no idea what they are doing, trying to succeed with their home based business. They are able to work at home, they just aren’t able to make any money at it.

Before you even think about joining anything or anyone or spending even a cent of your own money, do some research.  Find out as much information as you can about anyone or anything that looks interesting to you. If you really want to work at home, you need to find someone who can really show you how not just how to get started but how to grow and prosper. I recommend searching for teaching and training. Read the material you find. Think about what they are saying and see if it makes sense to you. If you find a person or training course that appeals to you, then contact the owner or trainer. Ask them questions. Decide for yourself if what they are teaching makes sense. A work at home career is within anyone’s reach if they start down the right path at the beginning.
