Many would-be work from home entrepreneurs are worried about how to make money on the ‘‘Net. They are worried that they could get involved in a scam, or do a lot of work for a laughable amount of money. Although the Internet does have its share of unlawful businesses, there are some genuine income opportunities out there. In fact, most legitimate online businesses fall into 4 different categories. Choosing the one for your new dream lifestyle is a personal choice and will depend on how much money you can invest up front, how much income you need to generate, and so forth.
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is the least aggressive of the 4 common business types, and can even be considered passive income. Affiliate marketing means that you allow other businesses to post advertisements or links on your Website. As each of your Website visitors click on these ads or links, you receive money from the advertiser. However, the amount per click is quite low, so you would need to have some alternate form of income in place, or a Website that generates a huge amount of traffic.
MLM Marketing
With MLM marketing, you pay a small amount of money to begin selling products or services for another company. You are paid a commission based on your sales. You also generate bonus income by recruiting others to the business, earning a percentage of their commissions. MLM marketing and pyramid schemes are often confused with each other, because they both rely upon the recruitment of other people to generate more income. The difference is that with MLM sales, you are paid to sell products and earn a bonus income with your recruits. In pyramid schemes, which are illegal, you earn money only by recruiting others.
Direct Sales
Direct sales mean just that: selling goods or services directly to the public. You may have your own goods, such as handmade jewelry, that you sell to the public. Or you may have your own services, such as a house cleaning service, which you market on your own. You can also do direct sales for other companies. Direct sales differ from MLM marketing in that there is no additional bonus income generated from recruiting others. Your sales are the only criteria for your commissions.
Turnkey Operations (AKA Franchises)
Turnkey operations are the most expensive of all the common home based careers because they require the biggest investment at start-up. Turnkey operations are pre-packaged business opportunities that the entrepreneur literally only has to “turn the key” to operate. Franchises such as fast food restaurants are easily recognizable, and the entrepreneur reaps the benefits of this instant brand name recognition as well as the carefully-researched nationwide marketing and advertising schemes. On the other hand, there is less room for personalization and customization with a franchise, as the buyer usually has to conform to what the parent corporation has laid out.
From least expensive to most demanding, those 4 business models will be the ones you encounter as you try to find the business opportunity of your dreams. Do some research and decide which will be the best fit for your needs. Some people love the flexibility of direct sales while others want the low commitment of affiliate marketing. It’s totally up to you!
